Tonight's post I am doing something a little different and bringing to you an interview! This girl is not just a pretty face, she's beautiful not only on the outside but her beauty runs more than skin deep. She is super gorgeous, caring, hardworking & ambitious.. introducing to you Courtney Thorpe!
She is also a fellow model and good friend of mine who is has made through to be one of the QLD Top 20 Finalists for Miss World Australia with QLD State Finals happening this Sunday 18th of May. If you are interested in attending the event check out all details here.
I wish Courtney the best of luck for the competition as she is someone we can all look up to! Hope you enjoy the below interview x
Tell us a little bit about yourself, who are you and what do you do?
I have lived in Queensland my whole life between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and I am a big family girl, my Mum, Dad and younger brother really are my best friends. I can be a little bit of a contradiction, on one hand I love everything girly from shopping, shoes and makeup, while on the other hand I would give anything to be out camping or on the boat fishing!
I am currently working as the Head of the Styling Department at the Australian Institute of Creative Design, the Fashion Editor at GC Magazine, and in the process of starting my own business which has been a long time coming and will hopefully launch in a few months’ time!
What inspired you to enter Miss World 2014?
After competing in Melbourne last year at the Miss Universe national finals I had decided to “retire”, I guess you could say, from my pageant days, however, when the opportunity arose to participate in Miss World Australia I couldn’t say yes soon enough! It is more than just a pageant, it is not only a platform for young women to showcase their intelligence and talents rather than just their beauty, but it is also registered fundraising organisation.
Following the Miss World ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ ethos, I have been raising funds for Variety- the children’s charity, alongside one of my fellow Miss World Australia participants, Hayley Wilson. Fundraising is something I have been wanting to get more involved in for quite some time so it has been a great motivator and Hayley and I have very proudly raised over $300 for Variety in just two weeks!
What do you hope to achieve by taking part in the competition?
Other than making the most out of fundraising for Variety, I always love making new friends, some of my best friends I have made through pageants! It is also a great platform and with my business in the works, it could be a great opportunity for me to make networks and connections in the industry that will help me get it up and running. But most importantly I just want to have fun and make the most of it!
A day in the life of you involves…
Work, work, a little more work and did I mention work?! What can I say; I can be pretty ambitious and dedicated! I am currently working six days a week and on my one day off I play netball. I wish there was something more interesting to answer this question with but my career is my passion so I love every minute of working.
What do you believe beauty entails?
To me being beautiful is being truly comfortable and happy with who you are. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than someone who has fully accepted themselves for who they are, whether that be their thoughts and morals, or their looks, you really do have to love yourself first.
If you could be someone for a day who would it be?
I could go one of two ways with this answer! On one hand, I would love to spend a day being my idol, Giuliana Rancic who is such an inspiration to me, but on the other hand I would love to know what it is like to be a man for a day! If only to figure out what they find so fascinating about playing PlayStation games for hours on end!
What can’t you live without?
Anyone that has met me would be able to answer this one in a second! It’s chocolate. I eat chocolate almost every day, but just to be clear, I also only drink water, nothing else, so I justify my daily chocolate by saying it’s like a normal persons coffee fix!
What is your personal motto?
I have several depending on the situation! My general motto for life is pretty simple; go for it. Every time I have a decision to make I say this to myself, because at the end of the day you are only ever going to regret the opportunities you didn’t take. Sometimes the most amazing things happen when you least expect them to, and if you don’t just ‘go for it’ once in a while you will risk missing out on some of those amazing moments!
