INTERVIEW: DEBBIE SPELLMAN

jeskaalee

I mentioned in one of my posts a little while back that I had an interview on it's way to introduce to you an amazing woman whom I look up to.. I am so excited to introduce to you the ever inspiring Debbie Spellman! Debbie empowers women to value who they are & live life with purpose through healing emotional wounds and assisting in removing doubt within to live the life you dream. She believes every woman has a purpose and is designed to fulfil a specific purpose and she can help you find your way to living your life to it's best. I was honoured to interview Debbie and get to know her a little more myself and I am excited for you all to be inspired by her in todays interview post..

HI DEBBIE!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

I live in Sydney’s east with my hubby and fur baby Jed. I am founder of www.debbiespellman.com, inspiring and empowering women globally to own their worth and value and create a life on purpose. I do this via Retreats, Speaking, Events, Online Programs, 1:1 Mentoring and my online TV show, Detox Your Mind TV that reaches women in over 65 countries.

I am a health & wellness advocate and care deeply about bringing awareness to clean living and a stress-free lifestyle. I travel as often as possible to experience an endless Summer, devour fruit consistently, and follow the pull of an enriching and meaningful life…always.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BEGIN THE JOURNEY OF EMPOWRING OTHER WOMEN TO LIVE A LIFE WITH PURPOSE?

Like many I went through my own struggles. I wanted to be a life coach from the age of 20 yet it wasn’t until I launched my business 8 years later as a Mind Detox Practitioner where I did the inner reflection to identify my unique story. Having struggled with a lack of self-worth my entire life and a deep desire to find my true purpose, my journey led me on a discovery to conquer both of these elements. I now mentor women along the same path I walked to enable them to value themselves, mind, body and soul and to create the unique life they were born to live.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE OF YOU LOOK LIKE?

  • I wake up at 6.30am and do my hour of power. This morning practice connects me with my faith, gives me strength, clarity and wisdom for the day ahead. My fur baby then gets priority when Mr B arrives home and we go on our morning family walk.
  • I then start with lemon and water, drink a green smoothie and make a massive fruit bowl. I generally only eat fruit up until midday (Fit For Life Principle), which gives me loads of energy. My day could be anything from coaching clients, working on an upcoming program or retreat, recording Detox Your Mind TV or doing guest interviews. Other times I decide to take the afternoon off – in Summer I hit the beach with Mr B a little too often during ‘work hours’
  • Regularly I’ll pop on over to About Life for a fresh coconut or juice. I work in 90 min blocks for the highest level of productivity and this includes a 10-15 min break between.
  • Evenings I like nothing more than relaxing with Mr B and Jed, our fur baby. I don’t watch TV so instead use this time to settle in with a good book (I read a book a week), a podcast or an online program.

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO STAY HEALTHY & ACTIVE?

A run on the beach or around the park would have to be my favourite way to get active. Nothing beats nature for soothing the soul. I also love Pilates and walks with my fur baby allow me to catch up on the latest podcast episodes.

YOUR FAVORITE FASHION TREND COMING INTO SPRING?

Dresses! Nothing makes me happier than the first warm day of Summer where I can throw on a dress. To me this is summer at it’s finest. I love bold bright colours such as watermelon and turquoise.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR DOWN TIME?

It varies depending on how I feel. Sometimes I will take myself out in nature with a good book and my journal – all my ideas come from solitude time and deep reflection. Other times I watch TED Talks, learn online programs or listen to endless podcasts from my mentors. My kindle would probably be my favourite; one device that holds hundreds of books! Priceless. As you can see I love learning…

WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
Anyone who has dedicated themselves to making a bigger impact in our world. Who has heard the call to make a difference and taken action. I admire those who decide to live a life worth living.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR LIFE MANTRA IS?
“It is what it is”
Far too many times we worry unnecessarily, care about things that just don’t matter or stress over the details. When things pop up that seem out of my control I use this mantra to get perspective. I do all I can to change it and if I can’t change it…I let it go. Simple really.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

Wow, what isn’t ;) I have always had big and bold dreams for the future and have never given up pursuing these. I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I was 21 and despite a slight detour until 28 I have worked towards this dream ever since which is to inspire women globally and ultimately spend my time serving and giving back to the poor and disadvantaged.

I desire to serve one million women online spreading the message of self-worth and purpose; so my focus will be around social media, programs as well as speaking. It makes my heart sing to be able to reach a woman online no matter where she is in the world, to listen to her story and help her through her challenges…that’s the power of the internet.

I also love the magic that happens when women come together so I will continue launching my retreats globally. I am also sure a book is on the horizon…will leave that one to destiny :)

INTERVIEW: IRENE FALCONE

jeskaalee

Tonight I am introducing to you a woman who is passionate about organic skincare, natural makeup & healthy living. The one and only Irene Falcone you may have heard of her before but if you haven't let me introduce you..

Irene is a mum of 4, and a reformed mainstream beauty addict. After years of battling fatigue she decided to throw away all her mainstream beauty products to “go organic”. Within just a few months she started to really see and feel the results. So as a result of this Irene started her business to help other mums make the switch to natural and organic products. Following on from her results Irene created her website Nourished Life which is the one stop place for all your organic & natural skin care & beauty products.

I had a chat with Irene about her skincare routine, some of her go to products & what is in store for the future!

Grab yourself some hot tea, sit back and enjoy! x

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I'm a makeup lover, entrepreneur, coffee addict and foremost a mum. I am also the owner and founder of Nourished Life - the ultimate shopping destination for organic, vegan, gluten free beauty and lifestyle products for anyone wanting to reduce the chemical overload on their bodies.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND CREATING WWW.NOURISHEDLIFE.COM.AU?
Nourished Life started as a simple blog in 2009 that sought out the best natural alternatives to mainstream beauty and lifestyle products. I launched it because I myself had struggled so much to find great products when I first went toxin-free.

All my readers kept asking me where they could buy these products, and there wasn't anywhere that had them all in the one place- that's when I decided to turn the blog into a shop that made it easy to find all these amazing products that I had personally researched, tried and tested.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
I love trialing all the new natural and organic products on the market, so it actually changes quite often, however at the moment it look something like this:

jeskaalee

YOU BELIEVE LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF IN AN ORGANIC WAY EXTERNALLY  IS ESSENTIAL. DO YOU ALSO BELIEVE IN EATING ORGANICALLY TO NOURISH  YOUR BODY INTERNALLY?
Yes definitely - at home we try to buy organic, locally grown food as much as possible (with a big family like mine this isn't always easy!) but by eating organic, whole foods you get the fuel you need to get the most out of each day and you just glow from the inside out, plus it's better for your health! About Life is my favourite place to buy organic produce - everything is so fresh and delicious there. and they have the best organic coffee, bonus!

ANY FAVOURITE PRODUCTS YOU CAN RECOMMEND TO WOMEN TO KEEP THEIR SKIN HYDRATED IN THE COOLER MONTHS?
Yes! This is one of our most asked questions from customers. Our favourite products to keep skin hydrated are:

  • The Dr Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil (AKA a miracle in a bottle) which is the most incredible blend of organic cold pressed oils. It treats skin conditions (like dryness) by stimulating the skin's natural ability to repair itself. You can use it all over your face and body.
  • Egyptian Magic is made from just 6 natural ingredients, and is actually considered one of the most famous beauty creams in the world! This all-purpose balm is amazing as an intense treatment for dry and dehydrated skin (it is also amazing for cracked heals and elbows, acne, scars, burns, wrinkles, sun damage and eczema).
  •  For your body, you can't go past good ol' organic cold pressed coconut oil! It's super nourishing and moisturising, plus it's cost effective!

I also want to mention to make sure you have a really good day to day facial moisturiser suited to your skin type. This will stop things like makeup and environmental pressures like wind and cold weather from drying out your skin.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR DOWN TIME?
What down time?! Haha. I love doing yoga and spending time with my family, going out for dinner, cooking together, going to the park, just doing the simple things. I also love reading and researching new natural products and beauty trends!

WHO IS ONE OF YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS IN LIFE?
Lorna Jane, because of her passion for healthy lifestyle and her incredible business achievements. She's an inspiration to all women.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
Yes! We have a very exciting new in-house range of skincare products soon to be hitting shelves that are completely raw, vegan, organic AND Australian made! Our aim with this range is to change everyone’s beauty routine and the way they think about skincare.

A big thanks to Irene for having a chat and sharing with us a little bit about her lifestyle & passing on some of her knowledge! If you would like to find out more information, purchase some natural skincare & beauty products or just get in contact with Irene head her website or be sure to read her blog!

INTERVIEW: KELLI WHARTON

jeskaalee kelli wharton talulah

FOR ME I HAVE A MEMORY OF THE DAY I FIRST BOUGHT A DRESS BY TALULAH AND WEARING IT TO A PARTY.. I FELT SO AMAZING IN IT; NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS A PERFECT FIT & THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT, TROPICAL MATERIAL BUT BECAUSE IT WAS BY TALULAH, IT'S A LABEL I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED & LOVE THAT IT IS DESIGNED SO CLOSE TO HOME.

TODAY'S POST IS AN INTERVIEW WITH INCREDIBLE CREATIVE DIRECTOR BEHIND SOME OF MY FAVORITE LABELS TALULAH & ISLA.. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A CHAT WITH THE ONE & ONLY KELLI WHARTON RECENTLY AND LEARN A BIT ABOUT WHAT SHE STANDS FOR & WHAT INSPIRES HER BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS..

SIT BACK, REALX & ENJOY.. HAPPY FRIDAY x

" I AM INSPIRED BY MANY THINGS FROM THE THINGS I LOVE, MUSIC, COLOUR WAYS, TRAVEL AND THE AUSTRALIAN BYRON BAY BEACH LIFESTYLE".

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO ARE YOU & WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Kelli Wharton and I am the Creative Director of TALULAH. I overlook brand direction, design and production of our three brands TALUALH ready-to-wear, ISLA and TALULAH Swim & Resort. I work with my TALULAH team at our TALULAH HQ in Byron Bay, Australia to produce beautiful designer apparel for women.

Every day is busy in the office, but we are lucky that everyone who is part of our team loves what they do. Plenty gets done in a single day, but the day’s definitely run away with you. My husband is company Director and I am Creative Director and Designer for the TALULAH brand. We share our office space together and work in partnership to build the business. In a typical day I share my time between designer new ranges, working with our Sales and Marketing Manager and leading the creative direction for the business.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER?

I was very creative when I was a young girl, and loved colour, florals and prints. This carried through with me in High School where I studied design. When I finished school I launched my first collection shortly after. Design has always been a passion of mine and from an early age I knew this. I am lucky enough that I am still able to do this today for a living, and I encourage all women to spend some time discovering what they love and ensure the allow themselves to do this for themselves every day; be it through work, leisure or as a hobby.

YOU ALWAYS WORK WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MATERIALS AND COLOURS - WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION WHEN CREATING A DESIGN & CHOOSING MATERIALS?

We have defined unique brand aesthetics for both TALULAH and ISLA which I use to guide me when designing collections, but I am inspired by many things from the things I love, music, colour ways, travel and the Australian Byron Bay beach lifestyle.

WHO INSPIRES YOU IN THE DESIGN WORLD?

Cara Delevingne! Her natural beauty and individual style tie her perfectly to the TALULAH aesthetic - confident, imaginative and styles with elegance and sensibility.

THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?

You can do anything in life, as long as you apply yourself and work hard at it daily. Never give up and never take no for an answer. I would suggest working for a fashion company you like so you can learn what actually happens within a fashion business day to day. Find out what area you enjoy, whether it is PR, marketing, designing, production, accounts. As there are many sides to the business of fashion you can be part of. When applying for jobs have a can-do attitude so you can get involved in many parts of the business and have the opportunity to grow and explore.

BESIDES DESIGNING WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU HAVE FREE TIME?

My family and I are lucky that we share our office and home with the beautiful surroundings of Byron Bay and its beaches. In A typical day my husband and I spend time with our family at the beach or catching up with for coffee or dinner with friends. I have taken up a great new hobby too – paddle boarding, and you can usually see my husband and I out on the water chasing waves early in the morning at Wategos beach.

THE PIECE OF CLOTHING EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE IN HER WARDROBE?

A printed TALULAH dress that can be worn with flats to coffee or high heels on a night out with friends

YOUR MUST HAVE CLOTHING ITEM FOR THIS WINTER?

A printed, fitted knee lengths dress with sleeves. Perfect to dress up or down for winter and layer with accessories. The TALULAH Black and White Meridian Moon Dress is especially one of our favourites.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

We are introducing some beautiful new product categories, and have also partnered with some amazing designers and partners to produce new diffusion lines, to be released later this year. Watch this space and keep shopping online at Talulah.com.au to see what’s new.

LORNA JANE: SPORTY SISTER OF THE WEEK

Last week I had the great pleasure (I am still feeling overwhelmed) of being interviewed by one of my favorite sportswear labels for their beautiful blog Move Nourish Believe  ..If those words sound familiar to you it's because I am talking about the one & only Lorna Jane. This brand isn't just a sportswear label, they are a movement on a mission to empower women to lead their best life through active living.

I was truly honoured to be interviewed by a brand I know, wear, love & believe in what they they stand for. As I mention in my interview, I wasn't always the healthiest version of myself for many years. It has taken me time to get to where I am today and I am still finding new ways to improve my health & happiness every single day.

Every person has different goals, different motivation & different body shapes.. We all have a vision in mind of the person we want to be and sometimes we need help along the way to reach our goals & get to where we want to be.

I love to be inspired by other active living women & women on a path of wellness for their mind  & body.. There are so many other amazing women on the blog talking about their journey, up's, downs, life & everything in-between.. Women of all walks of life, different fitness levels & different ways of making the most out of life.

I hope you enjoy reading my interview, an insight into my health, happiness & active living journey - Happy Monday to you beautiful x

Tell us a little bit about yourself, who are you and what do you do?

I have lived in Queensland my whole life between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and I am a big family girl, my Mum, Dad and younger brother really are my best friends. I can be a little bit of a contradiction, on one hand I love everything girly from shopping, shoes and makeup, while on the other hand I would give anything to be out camping or on the boat fishing!

I am currently working as the Head of the Styling Department at the Australian Institute of Creative Design, the Fashion Editor at GC Magazine, and in the process of starting my own business which has been a long time coming and will hopefully launch in a few months’ time!

What inspired you to enter Miss World 2014?
After competing in Melbourne last year at the Miss Universe national finals I had decided to “retire”, I guess you could say, from my pageant days, however, when the opportunity arose to participate in Miss World Australia I couldn’t say yes soon enough! It is more than just a pageant, it is not only a platform for young women to showcase their intelligence and talents rather than just their beauty, but it is also registered fundraising organisation.

Following the Miss World ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ ethos, I have been raising funds for Variety- the children’s charity, alongside one of my fellow Miss World Australia participants, Hayley Wilson. Fundraising is something I have been wanting to get more involved in for quite some time so it has been a great motivator and Hayley and I have very proudly raised over $300 for Variety in just two weeks!

What do you hope to achieve by taking part in the competition?
Other than making the most out of fundraising for Variety, I always love making new friends, some of my best friends I have made through pageants! It is also a great platform and with my business in the works, it could be a great opportunity for me to make networks and connections in the industry that will help me get it up and running. But most importantly I just want to have fun and make the most of it!

jeskaalee

A day in the life of you involves…
Work, work, a little more work and did I mention work?! What can I say; I can be pretty ambitious and dedicated! I am currently working six days a week and on my one day off I play netball. I wish there was something more interesting to answer this question with but my career is my passion so I love every minute of working.

What do you believe beauty entails?
To me being beautiful is being truly comfortable and happy with who you are. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than someone who has fully accepted themselves for who they are, whether that be their thoughts and morals, or their looks, you really do have to love yourself first.

If you could be someone for a day who would it be?
I could go one of two ways with this answer! On one hand, I would love to spend a day being my idol, Giuliana Rancic who is such an inspiration to me, but on the other hand I would love to know what it is like to be a man for a day! If only to figure out what they find so fascinating about playing PlayStation games for hours on end!

What can’t you live without?
Anyone that has met me would be able to answer this one in a second! It’s chocolate. I eat chocolate almost every day, but just to be clear, I also only drink water, nothing else, so I justify my daily chocolate by saying it’s like a normal persons coffee fix!

What is your personal motto?
I have several depending on the situation! My general motto for life is pretty simple; go for it. Every time I have a decision to make I say this to myself, because at the end of the day you are only ever going to regret the opportunities you didn’t take. Sometimes the most amazing things happen when you least expect them to, and if you don’t just ‘go for it’ once in a while you will risk missing out on some of those amazing moments!

CHECK IT

The week is almost out once again.. time really does fly! Yesterday I had so much fun spending the day with Mum, we don't always get a whole day together.. but we were together from 4am.. early right! A morning casting had us travelling to Brisbane first thing, a fair bit of driving and numerous snap chats were sent, we then headed to coffee and breakfast down the coast which was nice to relax after a long morning.. Then for most of the afternoon we shot a whole bunch of looks for the blog at all kinds of locations - this included creepy on lookers and all - But in all of that I really enjoyed the time I spent with Mum, she's amazing in every way xx

jess marshall

Today's post I am letting you know 25 facts about myself that you may not already know about me so you can get to know me a bit more! So lets get started on some weird, interesting, fun facts...

1. I wasn't always into fashion like I am now, from a young age I was a tom boy always hanging out with my brother and his friends. I think it was only from about 2009 that I really started to embrace the world of fashion. I feel so passionate about it now and so happy with the journey I am on.

2. I've noticed over the years I occasionally have light bulb moments and start a sentence with 'Could you imagine if' for example..'Could you imagine if we walked on our hands instead of our feet?'

3. For a few of my younger years in primary school i rocked a mullet hair do.. Mum seems to think they were in fashion, a mullet is never in fashion.. I dislike a lot of the photos from that period in my life!

4. When I am home by myself I like to turn the music up really loud and dance around, sometimes I even let my dog Baxter in and he dances around with me.. Pet bonding?

5. I am self taught in photo re-touching, I was once asked when I studied graphic design if their would be a possibility of me teaching my skills to the class.

6. I have a lazy eye, as in one of my eye's is not as strong as my other eye..how lazy of it!

7. I grew up out in the country, and absolutely love animals, they are all such beautiful creatures. I used to feed baby cows (calfs) from a bottle in my gumboots as a child & build fences with my Dad.

8. Living a healthy lifestyle for me started back in 2010 when I met my partner Jays, he lives such a healthy lifestyle it rubbed off onto me too and I am so thankful for the journey it has taken me on I lost more than 10kg & learnt how to treat my body well & exercise. This meant goodbye to microwave meals.. thankfully & it means so much to have been on that journey with my love.

9. I am terrified of spiders, they make my skin crawl, I can't be in a room knowing one is in there until someone takes it away.

10. I've been modelling for 4 years this year with my agency Katz Management and love it, it's like a little family at the agency and I am so thankful for some of the gorgeous friends I have made.

11. My longest standing friendship is with two of my best friends of 21 years which I am so thankful for.. and now I feel old! I love that I have a handful of close friends that I hold close to my heart & we can support each other in our dreams.

12. Sometimes I think I am way to hard on myself for not reaching my goals when I said I would or not eating well and missing out on exercising as much as I said I would.

13. I believe in forgiveness and I do not like to hold grudges, there is more to life that any of that.

14. One of my favorite things to eat is Sushi, I am absolutely in love with it and get so excited when Jays and I have a weekly sushi date, I think about what I am going to get before I even sit at the train - my current obsession is black rice.. it's delicious and i even read up on it and its considered a superfood, score!

15. I have been writing this blog for almost a year now and I am over the moon about its progress and the impact it has had on my life & hopefully I have impacted many of my readers also.

16. Being a photographer & a model I have always wondered what it would be like to take a photo of myself modelling, I know that probably sounds silly, but it's always a concept I have had in my mind.

17. I absolutely love to sing, I may not be very good at it but music brings so much to emotion me and I feel connected within myself when I sing. I only really like to do this when I am by myself.

18. I auditioned to be on The Face last year and got through to the second round, missing out on being on the show, but still so excited to be thought of.. We had to say 3 things that were interesting about ourselves, mine were that I am double jointed in all of my fingers, I consider myself to be multi-talented in many creative ways & I have quite big eyes, I was even called google back in high school because I have large eyes, that stuck with them in the second interview and made the mood a lot lighter which took away from the nerves..

19. I love to be organised and have things planned in advance, I am a bit of an organiser and I am usually delegated from a lot of my friends to get things planned or organised for events, which I don't mind.. I guess I'm good at it.

20. My favorite colour is blue, in pretty much every shade, I have an obsession with always buying cobalt blue items.

21. I generally don't like to talk about myself in conversation and I guess I am contradicting myself in writing this post, but I wanted to come up with a way for you to get to know me more.. I suppose I would consider myself more of a listener than a talker.

22. I like to pull silly faces and say funny things just because well it's fun!

23. I look like I am of european heritage but I have no idea what mine is.. I just tell people I am Australian with a slight possibility of being European.

24. I consider my mum to be one of my closest friends, we have one of those connections where we can talk about anything & everything and always support each other, i love her so much & I am so thankful that I was blessed to be her daughter.

25. Lastly I feel transitioning over the years going from being a tom boy into a fashion blogger is such a big change, but I really feel connected to the world of fashion & creating my own personal style - I absolutely love putting together outfits and seeing what I can create!

Hope you enjoyed this little insight into my life & the things that make me who I am today!
