I recently had the pleasure of spending the weekend at Jupiter's Hotel on the Gold Coast. It is not too far from where I live but still a beautiful place to escape for some relaxation and down time.

i spent my Sunday morning by the pool in a private bungalow poolside with spa, day beds, television and music; plus it also came with a complimentary fruit platter and water. I was lucky enough to have the poolside area to myself for most of the morning which gave me the opportunity to snap a few photos of the newly refurbished area that is only the start of the amazing $345 million transformations coming to the hotel.

My gal pal Steph came over later in the day to enjoy a night of fine dining with me at beautiful new restaurant Cucina Vivo situated in the hotel. A big plus is that the wait staff were oh so lovely and accommodating the entire evening..not only that the food was absolutley divine as we indulged in a three course meal accompanied by some cocktails. I loved the fresh modern interior of the restaurant that overlooked the pool area via the terrace.

Overall it was a fabulous weekend and we were so lucky to sneak in some sunshine and enjoy the pool in this winter weather. I cannot wait to head back there soon and view more of the amazing changes coming to the hotel!

HAPPY SNAPS

SUMMER MEMORIES

"LIVE IN THE SUNSHINE, SWIM IN THE SEA, DRINK THE WILD AIR". – RALPH WALDO EMERSON

www.jeskaalee.com

As I sit here and write this morning sipping on green mint tea and listening to the rain trickle down my window it dawns on me that Summer has been gone now for eighteen days.. (say what!) Although it has felt like Summer here on the Gold Coast these past few weeks with hot days and humidity still.. the nights have been feeling much cooler and the sun is rising much later each morning.

Summer is one of my favorite seasons, in all it's carefree, sun filled, hot, happy glory! (ahh come back!). Now don't get me wrong I love different things about each season for sure..winter fashion and getting cozy in warm blankets on cold days and nights..dreamy! But I am most fond of the Summertime and love to keep it's memory fresh in my mind each year.

For me to keep it alive I love having photographs, ornaments and bits and pieces around my home that remind me of the Summer that was.. so on those gloomy cooler days when my toes just can't get warm I can take my mind to that beautiful warm blissful place & bask in all its memorable glory. (plus play 'Im walking on sunshine in the background" haha).

KEEPING SUMMER MEMORIES

A few tips on how to keep those Summertime memories alive:

Memory Box: Having a box full of memories of everything that made your Summer special and pulling it out when you need to refresh or dream. Fill it with polaroids, shells, precious gifts, letters, poems or whatever was special to you.

Photographs: Polaroids or photographs in frames on pinned into a board in your home can brighten your day each time you walk past them. Picture Postie is an app that creates beautiful printed memories straight from your Instagram feed, they are the modern day polaroid.

Memories In A Jar: Filling a jar with sand and shells from your local beach and having it on display in your home as a centre piece or bedside decoration.

Seaside Styling: Style you home with the beach in mind.. think anchors, stripes, coral ornaments and the list goes on to suit your style.

Music: One of my favourite ways of evoking memories and emotion is listening to music. It has a way of bringing you back to a certain moment as though you are actually there in your mind.

I love nothing more than to get my creative juices flowing and playing around with the decor in my bedroom has to be one of my favorite things. When I think back to when I was younger I remember I used to shuffle my bedroom around into different ways and re-decorate it with cute posters & fluffy pillows.. All things cute back then but I'd be horrified if my bedroom was decorated in bright pink, blue & purple nowadays.. it was just too loud!

Now that I am older I am drawn to more subtle colour pops within my decorating so I always love to add a touch of colour as it makes me happy & brightens the room. I might also add that I addicted to anything tropical or beachy too so pineapples were a must. I am in love with my pina-colada flavoured black pineapple candle from Chelle's Candles oh and yes that watermelon was devoured after it modelled in my shoot.

I was also over the moon to find this gorgeous monochrome quilt set for a really low price at Kmart just recently.. it was the base for me to redecorate too and the change of season called for something fresh too.

A TIP
Starting with a simple canvas (quilt set) is great as it can be styled with so many different coloured pillows, throws & other bits and pieces it's not funny.. which I might add I am on the hunt for a cozy grey throw for the end of my bed coming into the cooler months… ahh the coziness has me excited for a little bit cooler weather!

THE REVIVAL

www.jeskaalee.com

How wonderful it is to see the old be reinvented into the new.. the way it can be transformed but still has an essence, a story of what once was within it's new found self. I adore how fashion trends come back season & season again, some I'm not too fond of and should be stored away for ever.. but some that you just get really excited about and see boutiques stocking styles from the past.

I readily admit I am a bit of a hoarder.. I do have the occasional clean out where I toss away things I don't need, send them away to charity stores or sell some things at the markets as I need more space for the new. But the things that I have kept for years now I always hope that they will be back in fashion and a lot of it usually does. I wish that my Mum kept a lot of her fashions from back when she was younger as it all just circles back and gets revived, recycled & reinvented.

I recently picked up the new Harpers Bazaar Australia magazine that features baby faced Miranda Kerr on the cover looking straight out of the 70's which I love! I haven't been a fan of the flared pant for years now.. but if I find the right pair I may even give them a go!

MY TIP
Hold onto good quality items that you feel great in when you wear them; for example jeans, jackets, blazers, shoes, boots, jewellery, sunglasses. If you really love them & can see yourself wearing them in a years time then keep them.. if you aren't that passionate about an item I say toss it as you'll probably never wear it again & if that style does come back you may find a piece you are passionate about and can keep in your faves pile for years to come.

Have you ever thought about how the ocean connects us all? Isn't it crazy/amazing to imagine the water at your local beach could have been all over the world.. Each grain of sand between your toes may have travelled from different parts of the world, through every sea on an adventure to find itself below your very feet..  It blows my mind & makes me feel a little more connected to this beautiful planet we live on.

Okay so enough mind blowing.. You know what I really love about the feeling of being by the sea is to be at the beach watching the sets flow
, listening to the waves crash, squishing my toes in the sand & seeing the sunshine sparkle over the wavy blue water.. it brings all of my senses alive & refreshes my mind to be by the sea. To be by the water also really encapsulates what Summer is to me (and I guess many others too).. whether it be walking down by the beach, relaxing by the pool or having a picnic at my local creek with friends & family ..that has to be one of the best things about Summer.. quality time with loved ones, spending some time in the sunshine & delicious summertime food all the time creating memories that last a lifetime.

This post is an exciting collaboration & my competition entry with some of my favorite brands Roc Eyewear, August StreetPink Stitch (which was one of the very first brands I featured on my blog here) + The Luxe Nomad in the ultimate summer blogger competition with the theme of ‘Eclectic Roc and Roll Summer - A Summer style post by the water’. I shot this look on Four Mile beach on my recent trip to the beautifully tropical Port Douglas.

As I sit here attempting to tell you about my exciting new venture I am nearly getting blown away by my ceiling fan! I think I may have mentioned before that our air-con poop'd itself here at home so we have to do the old fashioned thing and turn on the fans when it's hot.. and WOW it's been pretty stinking hot the past couple of days & the fans seem to be producing hot air not cold (and yep I've checked the winter/summer switch on top & it's definitely on the right one!)

Okay so now onto my exciting new venture!! Ahh!! Here goes.. So I am super excited & slightly nervous to let you know that I have jumped onboard the video blogging train (vlogging) & you can listen, watch & giggle at me down below. I'd dreamed of bringing this to the blog for a while but didn't have the best camera to do so.. I've recently upgrade my camera (yay!) and I will be growing my filming equipment to bring better quality videos to you soon!

In this Vlog as they call it, I thought I would let you in on my creative process when it comes to styling one of my photo shoots. I thought it was only fitting to chat about styling swimwear being so hot & these gorgeous Illias kini's have been perfect for keeping me cool! Please bare with me as I get used to talking to a camera, my nerves definitely got the better of me & I repeated myself quite a lot (Ummmm & soooo haha)
I feel I can only get better with time right?!
