DENIM DAYS

You have no idea how excited I am that Spring has arrived, I am literally jumping around like a crazy person!! The warmer weather has me very excited to start wearing dresses again without freezing my limbs off, not literally but you catch my drift.

I know the chill is still going hanging about here and there so I feel a denim jacket is the perfect transition piece that you can tie around your waist when it is warmer during the day or throw on when it is felling little cooler.

My shopping is all about versatility lately.. everything I purchase I make sure I will be able to get more than one occasion out of it and also try my best to make it a day to night item too.

We were driving around scouting different locations to shoot a few outfits during the week for the blog and came across this red garage door on someone's house.. We actually couldn't see a front door to ask them if it was okay to snap a few shots in front of it.. but their neighbour was quite friendly and entrained my a fashion shoot going on next door. So hopefully they didn't mind too much that we utilised a their pop of red as a feature wall in our shoot!

The red was the perfect contrast for this striped suit set by Finders Keepers The Label (coming soon). Now I would suggest wearing a top with this look if you aren't shooting a fashion look like we were here. I could see this styled back with a matching navy or cream top to tie everything together.

DAY TO NIGHT

It was a beautifully cold afternoon on the Gold Coast the day I shot this look with my gal pal Steph who I have been teaching the ropes on some photography basics.. she captured some amazing shots for me (thanks girl). I came across the location as I went for a walk along the water a few days prior to clear my mind and get some fresh air; I knew I'd be back to capture some looks against the stunning back drop.

We shot in the late afternoon as the sun was drifting slowly down behind the mountains which created a stunning soft glow to the images… the sunset was absolutely breath taking in to view in person.. if you know me you will know I am a sucker for a sky on fire.

Before I get too far away from the fashion side of things I did want to speak to you about creating an outfit that can take you from day to night when you may not have the opportunity for an outfit change. For me it is all about versatility and for me I feel with the right pieces it can be as easy as swapping your shoes from flats to heels if you wear an outfit with a piece that could be worn day into night.

The silky dusty pink top I am wearing is by IzzQ and I knew as soon as I tried it on I would be able to wear it for so many different occasions day and night and it created some pretty great reflections with the sunset too!

KEEP IT NEUTRAL

www.jeskaalee.com
www.jeskaalee.com

As the weather has been quite cold here on the Gold Coast the past couple of weeks (plus surrounding areas no doubt) it means I have been grabbing for darker colours when styling my outfits..for some reason my brain instinctively thinks I will be warmer in those.. which really isn't true at all!

When I think of neutrals they include white, grey and different shades of brown and beige. Wearing these tones in lush knits, cosy jackets styled back with white pants or even a blue wash denim can be a fresh take on a dreary winters day..it definitely helps lift my mood when I am wearing something a little lighter & brighter.

TURTLE NECK KNIT

Some days comfort wins over fashion.. but that doesn't mean we have to be unfashionable; we just have to dress fashionably comfortable. That was a tiny bit of a tounge twister but I am sure you all know what I am trying to get at here.

As you know I have a slight obsession with turtle necks in basically every style but especially in the cozy knit form. They are extremely on trend right now and it is easy to get your hands on one as they seem to be everywhere at the moment (in store, online.. you name it) and no wonder.. they are a really great piece to style back with many different outfit styles.

Finding the right fit and style for you is essential to feeling your best and most comfortable when wearing it. You want the knit to flatter your body shape so you must think about these few things before you purchase one.
-
Length: Finding the correct knit length in proportion to your height is a must. If you are taller you can get away with a longer length, but if you are shorter you don't want it to swamp your body and make you look shorter. I suggest going for a length that either hits your hips or just over or to lengthen your bottom half try a cropped style with a high waisted skirt or pants.

Neck Shape: Think a softer draping neck style or a more structured fit depending on personal preference of course. Tip: You don't want the neck style to make you look neckless and like you are a turtle popping your head out for air.

Colour: Picking a colour that suits your style, skin tone and one that will go back with what is already in your wardrobe is a must.

Texture: This may be dependant of where you are situated and what the climate is like. I find going for a simple knit rather than a busy one will allow you to wear it back with more. Think printed coats or cut out rough textured denim.

Featured is long sleeve Finders Keepers black knit..it has been one of my Winter staples this season it just seems to go back with so many pieces in my wardrobe and is one of the most comfortable knits I have ever worn. For me the soft falling neck, slightly fitted body & longer arm length are the perfect fit for me and my style.
