THE WINTER COAT

www.jeskaalee.com

Now living on the Gold Coast some may say we don't exactly get a 'Winter'.. but I don't think that should stop us from wearing Winter inspired clothing. We just need to know how to style them back with our less cozy pieces so we aren't sweating bullets having coffee by the beach in the sun.. Am I right!?

I feel the key to making a coat or trench work in our climate is being able to wear it in different ways whether it be around your waist, over your shoulders or actually putting your arms in (thats the most practical way if you don't want to lost your jacket running across the road..just sayin' from experience!).

Depending on your own style I have hand picked a bunch of key pieces for this post created by the just launched Noise Maker (or insta @noisemakeraust) at the newly renovated Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast. I am a sucker for a camel trench and I feel no matter the weather or where you live you should always have one on your wardrobe.. it goes with everything!!

QT HOTEL

www.jeskaalee.com

I had the recent pleasure of spending the weekend at QT Hotel on the Gold Coast for a mini vacay with some of my best gal pals. I absolutely love discovering gems like this that aren’t too far away from my home town but are still far enough to feel like I’m away on a holiday.

The stay began with walking into our room with stunning ocean views and sweet treats of macaroons laid out on the bed especially for our arrival… (Yummm! They were eaten within seconds we were so excited). Not to mention the room also had cute little emergency kits of bow ties and pool balls which were so quirky and fun.

Once we calmed down a little we got ready in our girly dresses and headed down to have a high tea at the QT Fixx Cafe. My favourite part of this was the food (of course) but it had a difference a lot of the sweet treats were savoury and the savoury ones were sweet..it was fun trying to guess which was going to be which taste.

We had a couple of malfunctions with my camera such as my SD card failing..(cue freak out). We tried our best to capture some images on our phones to share some images but my partner also saved the day bringing me a functioning SD card and some chocolate to calm my nerves. A few cocktails at the Stingray Bar downstairs also assisted in calming my nerves and crisis averted.

Waking up relaxed with a gorgeous view of the sunrise over the ocean we were excited to get straight to breakfast at the very well spoken about Bazzar buffet. I have honestly only ever heard great things and it is no wonder..I over indulged because everything looked and tasted so freaking great!

Our stay was complete once we were spoilt with relaxation heaven at the SpaQ with massages.. I didn’t want it to stop and I am so looking forward to going back for more indulgence!

THIGH HIGH BOOTS

www.jeskaalee.com

The one day out of my recent trip to Sydney I decided to wear my new Tres Jole thigh high boots it was absolutely freezing..I felt like I was standing in front of an air-conditioner when I walked out of my hotel onto the street. I later found out it was one of the coldest days on record in about two decades..(good work Jess).

Unfortunately the flu I now have would suggest it wasn't the most logical decision I have ever made but sometimes fashion comes before logic, especially when you love your new boots as much as I do and didn't want to pass up a photo shoot in the city. I also used the cold weather and my decision not to dress warm enough as an excuse to buy a new scarf at H&M.. (which I might add had so much more variety in the city compared to the new one on the coast here.)

On a smarter note the boots are an extremely versatile having a mid sized heel; which meant running around the city finding beautiful locations wasn't a worry. I also love that they can be styled with much more than a skirt on these cold days we have recently had thrust upon us. I paired them back with black jeans, black turtle neck and my black leather jacket for a sleek all black errrythang look a few days ago and felt amazing!

LET'S BE REAL

www.jeskaalee.com

I was recently having a little scroll through my Facebook feed this week past at all the cute puppy videos and people making fools of themselves on youtube clips (which I must admit they do keep me a little entertained and can brighten my day).. But I am bringing my procrastination on Facebook to light for a reason as it does sometimes lead to some really interesting articles shared by my friends of friends of friends.. you catch my drift.

Without continuing to beat around the bush I am getting straight to it.. I came across a a video post about Anxiety "Things About Anxiety Noone Talks About" and so that is what I am dedicating this post to. I for one have suffered from anxiety and still do on occasion and I am more than happy to openly speak about it if it will help someone else out with the same or similar struggle. I am me and if people can't accept the real me then they do not deserve a space in my world full stop.

This is the link to the video I saw on Facebook and I feel it definitely pin points what anxiety can feel like.. if you are feeling those things there is nothing wrong with you and you definitley are not alone!

I used to be scared, ashamed or embarrassed to have anxiety and would do anything in my power to avoid admitting that it was a part of my life. A lot of you reading this can probably relate to this feeling even if not for anxiety but for something similar that hangs over you that you may not be proud of, or you do not have the courage to admit to yourself.

The key for myself was admitting it to myself.. not anyone else, but me. I had to come to terms that it was something real and something that I needed to learn how to deal with. I had to want to help myself so that I could understand myself more and understand why I was feeling the way I was feeling. At first I just spoke with my mum about it as she has also suffered from anxiety from time to time so I knew she would understand and a couple of close friends.. But it still didn't completely stop me from having those thoughts and feelings.

It got to a point where I felt as though I had to speak to someone who wasn't a part of my world, someone who had no idea who I was but would be able to help me take control.. I built up the courage, I got a referral and I opened up to a therapist about how I was feeling and asked her to help me figure out the best way to understand how I was feeling and the best ways to deal with it. The main thing I learnt was that anxiety does not define me as a person, it was just something that I had to learn to deal with and so that is what I did with a little extra help from someone who had an understanding of what I was going through whom had the right advice, experience and tools to help me out.

I now kick myself for putting off chatting to a therapist for so long as I was scared to admit it to myself or worried about what other people would think but it was one of the best things that I could have done for myself - I now have a better understanding of anxiety, myself and the best way to deal with it if it pops up and I am not ashamed to speak about it as it really isn't a shameful thing!

Remember you are never alone in how you are feeling.. someone will always be able to relate to you, someone will always be able to help you, someone will always be there to listen to you. You just need to take that very first step to ask for help so you can learn to be the best version of you.. Always be real with yourself and live your truth!

Oh and PS// Another blogger I love to follow Jessica Emily also recently opened up about her experience with anxiety and depression here  ..Go girl, lets make it okay to talk about this stuff!

NEWRYBAR

www.jeskaalee.com

If you follow my instagram or snapchat you would have seen I recently went on a fun trip to the beautiful little town of Newrybar which is about a 15min drive south of Byron Bay. The town is so full of history and charm, I didn't know about the town until I visited and stayed at The Art House's homely cottage with my gal pal Megan for a little creative and relaxing get away.

We had so much fun exploring the town and all it had to offer! I may have gone a little snap crazy with the images.. but I love taking photo's and wanted to share with you all the beautiful places we discovered.

One place you must visit is Newrybar Merchants .. It is set to become a world-renowned hot-spot for those seeking a unique retail experience. The store is a destination that enables customers to experience rustic charm effortlessly blended with sophistication within a beautiful and unique collective retail space. Each trader has a room to style within the historic building.. Some of my favorite collaborators were Shannon Frick, Jai Vasicek and Tigmi Trading

Also if you are a food lover like myself you must not go past Harvest for a meal or a macadamia milk coffee from Harvest Deli. We enjoyed our beautifully styled share plates, they were full of so much flavour!

Some other places to visit are The Shed for beautiful antiques and Driftlab store.. I love that every single item of clothing, accessory, skin care product, artwork and vintage homeware in Driftlab has been carefully selected and curated to reflect the unique point of view,
inspiration and charm behind the brand.

If you do ever get the chance to visit this little town I say it is a must even if it is only for the day!

H&M STUDIO SS16

www.jeskaalee.com

Has anyone else felt as though they may melt in this Gold Coast heat wave lately? The intense humidity currently has me craving a little bit of that cooler Winter weather.. I cannot wait to get snuggly in knits and layering outfit pieces, plus pulling out some trenches that have been sitting in my cupboard all Summer. I am also feeling that I will be wearing a lot of neutral and softer tones paired back with basics of black, white and grey.. although knowing me I'll change my mind by the time Winter shows face and I'll be running around in bright yellow (haha).

On another note I am very excited to style these two beautiful pieces featured from H&M's Studio SS16 collection which launches tomorrow (25th of February).. I am equally excited that a physical store will be opening in the newly refurbished Pacific Fair in the coming months too (Eeeek) look out bank account!
