THE WINTER COAT

www.jeskaalee.com

Now living on the Gold Coast some may say we don't exactly get a 'Winter'.. but I don't think that should stop us from wearing Winter inspired clothing. We just need to know how to style them back with our less cozy pieces so we aren't sweating bullets having coffee by the beach in the sun.. Am I right!?

I feel the key to making a coat or trench work in our climate is being able to wear it in different ways whether it be around your waist, over your shoulders or actually putting your arms in (thats the most practical way if you don't want to lost your jacket running across the road..just sayin' from experience!).

Depending on your own style I have hand picked a bunch of key pieces for this post created by the just launched Noise Maker (or insta @noisemakeraust) at the newly renovated Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast. I am a sucker for a camel trench and I feel no matter the weather or where you live you should always have one on your wardrobe.. it goes with everything!!

THIGH HIGH BOOTS

www.jeskaalee.com

The one day out of my recent trip to Sydney I decided to wear my new Tres Jole thigh high boots it was absolutely freezing..I felt like I was standing in front of an air-conditioner when I walked out of my hotel onto the street. I later found out it was one of the coldest days on record in about two decades..(good work Jess).

Unfortunately the flu I now have would suggest it wasn't the most logical decision I have ever made but sometimes fashion comes before logic, especially when you love your new boots as much as I do and didn't want to pass up a photo shoot in the city. I also used the cold weather and my decision not to dress warm enough as an excuse to buy a new scarf at H&M.. (which I might add had so much more variety in the city compared to the new one on the coast here.)

On a smarter note the boots are an extremely versatile having a mid sized heel; which meant running around the city finding beautiful locations wasn't a worry. I also love that they can be styled with much more than a skirt on these cold days we have recently had thrust upon us. I paired them back with black jeans, black turtle neck and my black leather jacket for a sleek all black errrythang look a few days ago and felt amazing!

TURTLE NECK KNIT

Some days comfort wins over fashion.. but that doesn't mean we have to be unfashionable; we just have to dress fashionably comfortable. That was a tiny bit of a tounge twister but I am sure you all know what I am trying to get at here.

As you know I have a slight obsession with turtle necks in basically every style but especially in the cozy knit form. They are extremely on trend right now and it is easy to get your hands on one as they seem to be everywhere at the moment (in store, online.. you name it) and no wonder.. they are a really great piece to style back with many different outfit styles.

Finding the right fit and style for you is essential to feeling your best and most comfortable when wearing it. You want the knit to flatter your body shape so you must think about these few things before you purchase one.
-
Length: Finding the correct knit length in proportion to your height is a must. If you are taller you can get away with a longer length, but if you are shorter you don't want it to swamp your body and make you look shorter. I suggest going for a length that either hits your hips or just over or to lengthen your bottom half try a cropped style with a high waisted skirt or pants.

Neck Shape: Think a softer draping neck style or a more structured fit depending on personal preference of course. Tip: You don't want the neck style to make you look neckless and like you are a turtle popping your head out for air.

Colour: Picking a colour that suits your style, skin tone and one that will go back with what is already in your wardrobe is a must.

Texture: This may be dependant of where you are situated and what the climate is like. I find going for a simple knit rather than a busy one will allow you to wear it back with more. Think printed coats or cut out rough textured denim.

Featured is long sleeve Finders Keepers black knit..it has been one of my Winter staples this season it just seems to go back with so many pieces in my wardrobe and is one of the most comfortable knits I have ever worn. For me the soft falling neck, slightly fitted body & longer arm length are the perfect fit for me and my style.

ALL BLACK EVERYTHING

The amazing Shilla has created the perfect staple black knit top this autumn/winter which I believe I may style it a little too often into my outfits. But when you feel great in something why not wear it a lot ..and get it in two other colours..whoops! I just couldn't help myself..when you are onto a good thing you just have to sometimes!

The black knit top was the perfect starting piece for my all black outfit.. I feel using different textures when you are working with one colour or shade really helps to make the outfit have a little life instead of looking flat. I mixed my leather look jeans and jacket back with the knitted textured top to create this look with an added pop of my favourite colour blue just to add something different to the look!

So I thought it was only fitting that I wore my hair in a top knot for this post topic! As the title entails yes I am talking about the knotted belt. I have been seeing this trend around quite a lot lately and I feel like it's one that has been around on and off over the years.

Now I personally haven't found a lot I around in stores when I have been out and about lately.. (none that suit my bank account) well besides the Bardot one I am wearing here which I was quite excited to get my hands on. I feel like it's the perfect piece to add something a little extra to the waist of your outfit.

Sometimes I like to google things for the sake of learning something new and I wanted to share some tips I found on creative ways to knot a belt with one you already have at home.. simples! (I had to do it.. I actually haven't seen that ad in a while.. it was adorably annoying!)

I found some amazing D.I.Y tips here to create your own knotted belt!

PASTEL MIND

I have recently been lusting over all the MBFWA (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia) posts all over my instagram feed this past week. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend this year because of work so I have been vicariously living through all my favourite bloggers posts on instagram. There has definitely been non stop outfit inspiration on and off the runway being posted. I've seen, stripes, monochrome, denim, all black, all white, pops of colour, pastel.. the list goes on and I love that many bloggers/attendee's have been putting their own twist into this seasons trends.

I remember last year I got my hands on a pink pastel coat (eeeek) and I am so excited to be able to wear it again soon when the weather cools down a little more here on the Gold Coast. This season I have also been obsessed with pastel blue (blue is my favorite as you may have read on my blog as I feature it quite a lot in many shades).

I styled this Finders Keepers pastel blue suit (coming soon) back with a loose fit striped turtle neck & black accessories for a dressy/casual look that could be worn to the office or out to lunch.
