HEAR ME OUT

I recently read an article that made me think & question things.. It's not so much the article that has anything to do with what I am writing about today but just a tiny snippet of it made me really think. A part of the article was speaking about how a lot of our relationships and conversations are had via social media or text messages and they lack in emotion, real emotion that you can see, hear & touch etc not written text and emoticons. It makes me a little sad & disconnected to think that really important conversations and meaningful things are being said over this technology. I love technology don't get me wrong, I love the fun apps & the staying connected with people overseas and the social reach it has for my blog & business, its phenomenal how this technology has been created & so easy for us to use.

So what I am trying to say..let me put it this way.. you know when you pick up a book or you read an article like I did and you then create a story, a picture in your mind of how things are because of the way you interpret the written text and someone else would read the same book and have a completely different story of images in there own mind even though you are both reading the same thing it's just that your two minds read it differently.

I don't normally go completely in-depth with a lot of posts but today I wanted to open up and speak about this as I feel it is close to home. When it comes to keeping in contact with friends & family members over simple or serious matters I feel as though a lot of the time we are still taking to our phones and speaking through our finger tips to organise, vent or resolve something because it's easy. I am not a huge phone talker but I am going to make the effort to be better at it because I think in the long run it will benefit myself and my relationships.

Today I am going to set a simple task for myself and for you: if you wish to join in is to call someone a friend, a family member, a co-worker and have a conversation with them it doesn't have to be a long one or call them and organise to catch up in person and speak about each others lives, resolve something or just have a good chat and laugh. I feel it is vital for us as humans to be interacting face to face, or at least ear to ear to gain the emotional understanding of each other we need.

WHY I WRITE

I have been lucky enough to have the 'Why I Write' baton passed onto me by my bestie Kate at The Whole Housewife. I absolutely love this idea and love that I am now on board to take part in it. So you are probably wondering what I am going on about?  Down below I am giving you an insight of what my writing process is, what it means to me to write & probably a little jabbering on as I tend to do sometimes which many bloggers and writers have been doing and passing on the baton! Grab a tea, sit back, relax &  enjoy!

jeskaalee

What am I working on?

I am currently working on some new ideas & content to bring to the blog each week for you all. I want to bring some more fresh topics, interviews with interesting, inspiring people & even some Vlogging (which I only recently discovered means Video Blogging). I believe by adding this element to my blog it will bring a more personal touch so you can meet me in video form. I am a little camera shy & goofy so will need to brush up on my talking to a camera skills and get a good video camera to bring you this content so it may be a little while in the making..but keep your eye out!

How does my writing style differ from others in my genre?

Let's just say it differs because I am not technically a writer! Speaking honestly I find myself continuously writing things incorrectly, numerous typos & spelling mistakes, even repeating myself and I go off topic quite a lot.

I like to think that what I write is quite down to earth..I'm human so I am going to have spelling errors and not always make sense the way I try to..I also believe my brain thinks at a much faster rate then what I am trying to type and well that is just what comes out.

A funny story actually.. I remember taking an advanced English class in high school, thinking that I would be great at it.. after doing an assessment my teacher took me aside to chat about what I had written and told me that I had invented 3 new words that didn't exist in the dictionary.. she gave me points for my creativity.. and I was okay with that, I am a creative mind after all!

Why do I write?

The reason I enjoy writing is it is a wonderful way to express myself! To express what I am thinking or feeling, to get things off my chest, to share something I may have learnt on my journey, to inspire others with bits and pieces of information that have helped me along the way. I love writing here because it gives me the chance to reach out to so many people all around the world and that includes you, yes you!

How does my writing process work?

I'd like to say I am super organised and have each post planned out but I wouldn't be telling the truth! Some weeks it is really organised and I plan out posts and jot down bits and pieces of brainstorming into my ye ol hand written diary.

Though other times it can be a challenge thinking of what to write that is relevant to what I am feeling or what to write about a certain outfit I have styled for a post.. I guess they call that writers block. Then other days it just flows without any hesitation and all works and makes sense and i feel like I could go on for ever!

So all in all my process is to have a rough idea of what I would like to express or write about and then go with the flow!

I hope you enjoyed this little insight into why I write.. I absolutely love sharing my outfit posts, my advice, my personal experiences & much more with you here on my blog and looking forward to continuing writing or babbling on! Hope you have a beautiful day xx

WINDOW INTO MY WORLD

As most of you would know Instagram is one of the most used and popular social media platforms for not only businesses, bloggers and don't forget the everyday people too since its launch in 2010. The list goes on for how many different ways it can be used and is very much one of the great ways many business are advertising through more and more. I won't go to much into the history of instagram, but it doesn't have a very long one as it sky rocketed into something amazing in only 2 short years by hitting 100 Million active users in 2012.. Wow and look at it now!!

001.jpg

Myself being a blogger use the Instagram app to not only showcase different brands & labels that I love but also as a window into my world. I do not want to be seen solely as a blogger wearing outfits, or a model in front of a camera or have a stereotype. I want my Instagram to be a place that reflects me not only as a blogger, or a model but also show some substance of me as a person.

I like to use my Instagram to share creative photo photo shoots with beautiful imagery of my outfits I style and also being a model I like to showcase images as a 'mini' portfolio but without constantly posting photos of just me pushing products at you, because to me that would be a bit dull. I enjoy sharing positive quotes & a little view into some of the goings on in my days. I also like to use it as a place to share my thoughts and what I am passionate about with you all. I share the things that help me on my journey in hope that these things may help you on your journey too.

I want speak truthfully with you all and let you know it is not my goal to gain the most followers or the most likes by constantly pushing brands with huge followings via my Instagram at you as many instagram's do. I also do not like to just post about labels/brands that may not even be my style or the type of brand or product I would use or represent just to get followers. Now don't get me wrong, sometimes I will pick out a jacket or dress that might be a bit different or quirky to my usual style, but I like to mix it back with what I have in my wardrobe and make it my own. I wear things that I love & test out products that are what I actually use in my daily routine.

At the end of the day I want inspire others, bring positivity to my followers & showcase amazing brands with outfit posts, flat lays and beautiful imagery. Now also honestly speaking I was super excited to reach 10,000 followers last year.. thats a lot of people!! But to be where I am today is overwhelming and I feel so blessed that all of you who are following my instagram want to follow and support my journey, so thank you so much for your support!

jeskaalee

I wrote about this so you could have a better understanding of what I am about in this squared image, crazy, fun, exciting technological Instagram world! My advice and something I like to remind myself of every day is never forget to stick true to who you are and don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in!

AN AFTERNOON TEA

I've always loved decorating ever since I was young.. I remember back when I was in school I used to re-decorate or re-arrange my room every month or so by moving my furniture & bits and pieces around! I loved being able to create a whole new room with the things I already owned just by shuffling things around and making it fresh & feel new again!

Over the weekend I hosted an afternoon tea/market stall at my house with a few friends with some healthy treats, snacks & tea.. the weather turned out absolutely beautiful so I was able to host it out on my back patio in the sunshine.. I wanted to create a happy, warm atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.. (knowing how cold it is getting being winter here on the Gold Coast) So i bought some happy blooms & went for a soft blue, yellow & white theme to brighten things up! Most things i used for decorations I already had or picked up a lot of it from my local cheap shop, it's amazing what bargains you can find!

I can admit I am a bit of a hoarder [Okay it could be a problem] and i tend to keep things even if I don't use them or wear them, thinking that one day maybe a use will come up for them.. on occasion it does, but most of the time it just takes up unnecessary space! A couple of weeks ago I had a huge clean out and put things into 3 piles.. 1 pile for a charity drop, 1 pile to sell at the markets and 1 pile of the things i'll be keeping in my wardrobe.. it was a breathe of fresh air!

Once I had cleared a lot of items into the 3 piles i came up with the idea to  host a little market stall and invite a bunch of friends over to filter through my extremely full wardrobe.. I will be doing a public market stall in my local area very soon [Hopefully the Village Markets in Burleigh]. For anyone wanting to find some treasures be sure to keep an eye out here, on my Facebook or Instagram to keep in the loop!

[A big thank you to everyone who came along & a special thanks to Kate [The Whole Housewife] for making some delicious raw chocolate treats and for your & Grea's help with preperations for the afternoon & Kim [Kimberly Lauren Photography] for capturing some beautiful memories of the day!]
